تفرقه‌گرایی و خشونت فرقه‌ای علی‌رغم آن واقعیت وجود دارد که مسلمانان بلژیکی معمولاً به‌عنوان گروهی با هویت مسلمان بلژیکی نسبتاً یکپارچه تلقی می‌شوند. شیعیان در بلژیک یک جامعه اقلیت در میان مسلمانان هستند و همین امر آن‌ها را در برابر حاشیه‌نشینی و حملات خشونت‌آمیز آسیب‌پذیرتر می‌سازد. این پژوهش با استفاده از داده‌های مردم‌شناختی حاصل از دو مصاحبه، بررسی می‌کند که زنان شیعه بلژیکی چگونه با مفاهیم هویت و همبستگی در مواجهه با تفرقه‌گرایی، خشونت فرقه‌ای و طرد اجتماعی کنار می‌آیند. این مطالعه به بازساخت و بیان هویت‌های شیعی به‌عنوان یک اقلیت تحت تهدید مستمر خشونت، آزار و تبعیض می‌پردازد.
